Job Summary for the Civil Project Manager

The primary function of this position is to oversee and manage multiple projects in land development and site design for a wide variety of land development projects, applying engineering principles and technologies so as to exceed the client’s expectations. This role will be responsible for performing a variety of engineering planning, design and construction phase assignments on a range of project sizes and types.

Essential Functions of the Civil Project Manager

  • Generate contract drawings and technical specifications
  • Perform design calculations, modeling and analysis
  • Provide site design and general engineering services on a variety of commercial projects
  • Oversee AutoCAD Civil 3D staff on plan production
  • Assist Director of Civil Engineering with plan preparation for full site design
  • Design and prepare site, grading and utility plans for commercial projects
  • Hire and manage sub-consultants for projects as necessary
  • Analyze and communicate owner directed design changes
  • Manage flow of information to ensure timely implementation of design and oversee schedule management and design milestone dates
  • Oversee and manage project contracts to ensure essential elements are met
  • Oversee and assist as necessary with permit applications, drawings and computer-aided design (CAD) work
  • Perform research and investigations

Knowledge, Technical Skills and Abilities of the Civil Project Manager

  • Broad knowledge and skills of civil engineering principles, practices, and methods
  • Knowledge of real estate development, particularly in project feasibility and entitlement
  • Strong proficiency in Civil engineering/design/CAD software and other PC software packages typically associated with engineering
  • Strong technology background including AutoCAD Civil 3D, Autodesk, Microsoft Project
  • AutoCAD Civil 3D experience with grading and utility design
  • Project accounting and cost control skills required
  • Ability to create plans from acquisition of survey data and base map
  • Strong organizational and time management skills

Training and Experience Requirements for the Civil Project Manager

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Master’s a plus
  • Professional Engineer License
  • 5+ years of land development engineering experience
