Mark is the Founder and President of Bluewater Advisory, launching the firm in 2010 after a 20-year career as a non-family executive in a family business and closely held firms. Mark and Bluewater’s experienced, talented, and dedicated group of advisors work with organizations across the United States to develop highly functional teams of high-performing individuals and help organizations of all sizes reach new heights.
An accomplished trainer and consultant, Mark’s work focuses primarily on strategy and succession, working with several multi-generational family business owners as they plan and then carry out generational transfer of leadership and often ownership.
From Mark’s perspective, “It is such an honor to work with the clients to whom we are referred. Many of these businesses go back 60, 75, and over 100 years. Being part of the advisory team who influences, then helps implement strategy is extremely rewarding, and working with family members from two to sometimes three generations at once is truly unique.” Mark serves on the Boards of two of Bluewater’s clients and has developed Boards and Family Councils for clients as well.
Mark also facilitates CEO peer groups several times a year and enjoys facilitating strategic retreats for his clients, with Sedona, Scottsdale, and Key West among his favorite destinations.
Mark holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, and was awarded an Executive Master of Business Administration degree with Beta Gamma Sigma honors from Loyola University Maryland. Mark resides in Ocean City and Sykesville, MD, with his lovely wife, Janet, and they are blessed with two grown daughters. Mark’s hobbies include fishing and hiking, and he has run enough marathons and half-marathons to say he used to run marathons. Fun fact: Mark and his fishing buddy Mike are on a quest to catch 100 different species of saltwater fish, and at last count, they were in the 70’s.
